Why do consumers prefer the plant-based label to vegan or vegetarian?

It’s not unknown that labels on food packaging and the descriptions on food menus can influence a consumers preferences and tastes. For example, a number of research and studies have provided proof that consumers prefer plant-based products over vegan or vegetarian ones meaning the more that startups and companies offer meatless options, the more they have to think how they will label their food.

A study from DuPont Nutrition & Health, which includes 1,000 U.S. consumers, has revealed that 52% are eating more plant-based foods.

Taste has been revealed as one of the most important reasons to why people become vegan. Like in a recent Technomic report where only 27% of consumers who eat veggie or vegan dishes think that restaurants “do a good job of providing options that taste good.”
